What a great time to be in Colorado.  I drove up to District 13 and down to District 9 for their Spring Conferences and election of new District officers the first part of April.  WOW what a beautiful state we are living in.  The trees are coming alive again, the animals are coming out from all the snow; there is still streaks of snow across some of the passes and of course a lot of snow on others.  It is very beautiful.  And of course the Rockies are playing; well they are there.  They won the first game of the season.

Oh well, we are coming up fast on our State Convention in Colorado Springs.  (sure would like to visit other parts of the state)  We will be looking at new resolutions, new business ideas to get The American Legion name out to those veterans coming back from across the pond (believe or not, there are still members of our military who have never heard of us, that is very sad and disappointing) and new officers to be elected for the 2015-2016 membership year.

This will be the first time in many years that we will NEED to have an election as there are multiple Legionnaires wanting to assume an office in the Department of Colorado.  This year we will be voting on all positions in the Department from our National Executive Committeeperson to our Sergeant-at-Arms.  Hopefully in the following pages you will see the candidates and a brief summary of why they would like to assume their respective office.  I know they will be campaigning and the hospitality rooms will be full (wear your boots).  If you have not made your reservation or plan to attend this convention, I respectfully request that you do.  Your vote is needed and counted on.  I do know that it is a drive for some of you, but please it would be good to see you and listen to what you have to say and we hope you will have a good time.

Awards will be presented to those Posts that have achieved their 100% membership, Silver Brigade and Gold Brigade members who have signed up 25 to 50+ members.  Are you one of those?? District Commanders who attained 100% can receive a trip to the National Convention if they fall into the right category.  This is a time for celebration for all of our Posts, our Districts and our Department.

You all have done an excellent job this past year.  You have grown in your membership; you have taken on special projects for our posts and/or districts.  I am very happy and proud to have been your Department Commander this past year.  Thank you for all you have done for your Posts, your Districts and for the Department of Colorado.
