I hope everyone had a great 4th of July with family and friends; Hamburgers, Hot dogs, Steaks or whatever, Happy Birthday to These United States. I got up early to attend the 4th of July parade in Highlands Ranch. Commander Dave of Post 1260, and Post 1187 Castle Rock have been the Color Guard for this parade for the last 10 years plus. They do an excellent job of presenting our Colors and that of all the services.
WOW what a parade; Sheriff’s office, baton twirlers, horses, big long horn bull, kids riding their bicycle all decked out in Red, White and Blue, every Veterans Service organization in Highlands Ranch, church groups and of course politicians. The parade is only a mile and half, but the streets were lined with people 4 and 5 deep on both sides for the whole walk. They were shouting and clapping and standing at attention as our colors went by.
Commander Dave told me I was the first State Commander to attend their parade and he wasn’t sure where or what to do with me. So where does he put me, in the back of the pack just before the Auxiliary. That’s OK. I’ll remember that at our next meeting. This did give me the opportunity to break ranks and shake hands with several veterans along the way. Thank you for this great opportunity. I really enjoyed myself. To all of you who attended this fantastic day in celebration of our Independence you did an excellent job.
The National Convention is up coming in August and again Colorado will be at the front of the stage. Past Department Commander Carol will be accepting many awards for Colorado this year at the Convention. If you plan on going get your reservations in now, it will be a great opportunity for you. Hope to see you there.
Upon return from the National Convention, our District Fall Conferences will begin in September. I look forward to seeing each of you and letting you know where we, as a Department are going and how we will be getting there. Join us as these are your conferences. The schedule will be out shortly. Again hope you and your family had a great 4th and hope to see you soon
